Rapid Results from Degraded Samples
The PowerPlex® ESX 16 and ESI 16 Fast Systems meet the ENFSI recommendations for DNA profile sharing across Europe and allow co-amplification and detection of sixteen loci, including D18S51, D21S11, TH01, D3S1358, Amelogenin, D16S539, D2S1338, D1S1656, D10S1248, FGA, D8S1179, vWA, D22S1045, D19S433, D12S391 and D2S441. These kits can be used for both casework and database samples, simplifying workflows. Rapid cycling technology enables amplification to be done in less than 50 minutes. Additionally, these kits have superior tolerance to common inhibitors and superior sensitivity to obtain full profiles from low-level DNA and are robust enough to genotype degraded DNA samples through the use of miniSTR loci.
These two STR systems can be used to complement each other when analyzing degraded or challenging samples to maximize recovery of allelic information from as many loci as possible and allow confirmation of results obtained with the other system.
These systems are compatible with Spectrum and Spectrum Compact CE Systems and Applied Biosystems® 3130, 3130xl, 3500 and 3500xL Genetic Analyzers.

PowerPlex® ESX 16 Fast System
The PowerPlex® ESX 16 Fast System is designed with the loci recommended by the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI) and European DNA Profiling Group (EDNAP) as mini-STRs (<125bp; D2S441, D10S1248 and D22S1045) or midi-STRs (125–185bp; D1S1656 and D12S391).
PowerPlex® ESI 16 Fast System
The PowerPlex® ESI 16 Fast System is designed with six of the original seven European Standard Set (ESS) loci (D3S1358, D18S51, TH01, vWA, D8S1179 and the more common FGA alleles) along with D16S539 and D19S433 as smaller amplicons (<250bp), while the new loci recommended by the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI) and European DNA Profiling Group (EDNAP) (D1S1656, D2S441, D10S1248, D12S391 and D22S1045) are present as larger amplicons.
Rapid Processing Solutions for PowerPlex® Systems
The 5X AmpSolution™ Reagent, SwabSolution™ Kit and PunchSolution™ Kit allow fast and simple processing of swabs and punches for analysis with various PowerPlex® Systems, including the PowerPlex® Fusion, 21, 18D, 16 HS, ESX, ESI, CS7 and Y23 Systems. These products are intended for preparation of single-source reference, database and paternity samples where sample purification is unnecessary.
