Unit 3: Detecting Microbial Contamination

This unit supplements courses that introduce students to basic microbiology. The lecture and laboratory introduce students to ATP- and culture-based methods for detecting microbes, and encourages students to evaluate which techinque works best in given scenarios. MRSA is discussed as an emerging pathogen in the lecture and bioethics case study.
